GCSE Art Controlled Portfolio

Earlier this year I did my GCSE Art, but I was only allowed to take it home recently. This is my controlled portfolio, which was my non-timed art project.

The theme I chose was portraiture. It had to be something we had done the year before, e.g. Portraiture, Figures in the City, Alter Ego/Animal Sculptures.

We then had to make a photomontage from magazine cut outs related to our theme and then find compositions we liked and draw them.

I then took some of my own photos and made drawings from them, experimenting with different materials.

I then chose some artists to reference in my projects and did some studies of their work.
I chose Andy Gundthart, Katarzyna Klein and Inkquisitive.

I  then experimented with the artist's styles on my own photos...

... played around with some typography..

... worked out how I was going to present my work...

And this is what I ended up with.

A-Level Art Project: Masks

At the moment, I am in the first year of my Fine Art A-Level Course. As part of this unit, we have to  choose a starting point, I chose Masks, and start exploring the theme before creating a final outcome in timed conditions. Here is some of my work so far.

Tonal Pencil Drawing

Quick Tonal Painting

First time painting with a palette knife

Current work in progress

The exam isn't too far away now, so I am focused on getting as much work done as possible. The hardest thing for me is not spending too long on these experimental pieces, but instead exploring a wide range of materials, techniques and colour palettes.
